Why it’s More Important Than Ever to Support Small Businesses During a Global Pandemic (Covid-19)

There’s no doubt that this global pandemic is likely affecting almost everyone in the world in some way or another, but some industries and businesses are hit a lot harder in a situation like this. I feel hugely sad for areas of the world that survive on tourism but even here in the UK we have a huge amount of small businesses that sadly just won’t survive past this.

Many small businesses survive month to month, just earning enough income to pay their staff and outgoings, with some owners already having plugged a lot of their own cash into starting the business. Being forced to close or having many of their clients or customers just disappear into thin air means that they may only be able to survive a few weeks until they run out of cash. More than ever, it’s hugely important that we should be supporting them as much as we can. I wanted to take the opportunity to name drop some of these amazing small businesses I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years, to help them through this really, really tough time.

Wildling Shoes
The best barefoot shoe company in world (I have 2 pairs, I might be a little biased) are still taking online orders for their amazing shoes. I have some exciting projects planned with them in the next few months which I hope can still go ahead, although I have been told that their business has taken a huge hit in the last few weeks. Check out their amazing collection on their website ready for those adventures when this is all over. http://wildling.shoes/

Almond & Co Bournemouth
Alongside other projects, I work part time at this amazing little zero-waste shop. Although they are still open and have managed to set up a delivery and collection service within a matter of days, it’s still a struggle to keep the shop stocked and continue to pack all the orders while many of the staff members are being forced into isolation for 14 days. If you’re in the area, try to place an order for delivery or collection with them, or if not search for other online zero waste shops and support them! https://almondandco.co.uk/

The best shampoo bar I’ve ever used. I am currently working on a video collab with the Nope crew which I am really excited about. Until then, check out their collection on their website below.

Barefaced Brewing
Our local brewery are delivering their top notch beers locally alongside veg boxes and local coffee! If you’re in the Bournemouth / Poole area I highly recommend this beer, or if not find out if your local brewery are doing deliveries!

Love the Planet UK
These guys make wonderful plastic free make up and ship anywhere in the UK! They’re also currently offering 20% off your order for a limited time 🙂

Patch Plants
I’ve recently just received my order of plants which I am so happy about! Houseplants are known to lift mood and purify air which we all need a lot more of if we’re going to be spending so much time indoors! I am so in love with my two new additions to my living room ❤

Vision Tribe
My incredibly talented fiancĂ© Francis was one month into setting up his brand new video content agency when the pandemic reached the UK. Within a few days all of his current work and future projects had completely dried up, leaving him with no income. He still plans to make content using other means such as stock footage or animation for now, so if you’re looking for a badass content agency, hit him up!

I have also recently set up an Etsy for my handmade and recycled gifts I’m making at home while I am cooped up inside! Check it out here: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/naturallynomadicblog

I hope this has been insightful, I can’t tell you enough (from running small businesses myself) how much your order means to people like this, especially in really hard times. Our world needs small business owners!

Do let me know if you end up ordering from any of these businesses. Until then, stay safe!

Peace x
